Making sense of sensor arrays

Envirotec Magazine

The approach uses metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) – a class of compounds comprising a metal ion or cluster of metal ions and an organic molecule – exploiting their tiny features and selective adsorption properties to gather detailed information. MOFs have nanosized pores and selectively adsorb gases, similar to a sponge.

The nose that everyone knows

Envirotec Magazine

The digitization of visual information has been a transformative technology, an omnipresent feature of everyday life, and central to consumer products such as phones. To tackle these issues, the research team used an engineered material composition that allows for wide arrays of diverse sensors on one small nanostructured chip.

A DNA “receipt book”?

Envirotec Magazine

For that, they used CRISPR arrays, long repetitive sequences of DNA where bacteria normally copy bits of genetic information they need for immune memory—in the order they receive this information. However, CRISPR arrays are constantly adding small bits of free-floating DNA inside cells as part of their immune memory function.
