Novel system converts CO2 and plastic waste into a clean fuel

Envirotec Magazine

A coal-fired power plant: The group’s “solar fuels” system has now been tested with flue gases on an industrial site. Researchers have demonstrated a novel system for transforming captured carbon and plastic waste into sustainable fuels and other valuable chemicals using solar energy. In tests, CO 2 was converted into syngas, a key building block for sustainable liquid fuels, and plastic bottles were converted into glycolic acid, which is widely used in the cosmetics industry.
