Spain has launched a tender for up to 3.18 gigawatts of renewable generation in its first auction under a pay-as-bid model introduced earlier this year. The model, similar to the contracts-for-difference program used in the U.K., aims to correct problems with auctions in 2016 and 2017. Pacific Gas & Electric is asking state regulators to approve another massive round of energy storage procurements, including its first large-scale contract for behind-the-meter batteries to serve grid needs. The six projects announced Wednesday add up to 387 megawatts and 1,548 megawatt-hours of energy storage, including two utility-scale solar-storage systems in Southern California and three standalone battery installations across the state.

Mexican architecture firm Gabriel Beas Arquitectura has transformed a 1905 building in the historic Mexico City neighborhood of Colonia San Rafael into Corporativo BNS, a contemporary office space surrounded by lush landscaping. Completed in phases over four years, the adaptive reuse project recovered much of the carved stonework, iron windows, carpentry and tiled floors original to the 1905 construction while introducing a new contemporary aesthetic that welcomes the outdoors in.

MAN Truck & Bus began series production of battery-powered city buses in October at its plant in Starachowice, Poland. The first customer vehicles to come off the line are 12-meter solo versions of the Lion’s City E: 17 of these will be heading for Hamburg-Holstein’s public transit agency. Malmö, Sweden has placed an order for 22 units. The articulated version of the Lion’s City E should go into series production in the first half of 2021.

Renault Trucks is broadening its all-electric range, and offering a wider choice of batteries for its medium-duty EVs. The Renault Trucks D and D Wide Z.E. can now accommodate 66 kWh battery packs, and the Master Z.E. utility vehicle has just been released in a 3.5-ton model. Renault’s all-electric trucks can be customized from 3.1 to 26 tons GVW, and offer ranges of up to 400 km, depending on the model and configuration.

Yachts de Luxe (YdL) of Singapore has signed a ten-year contract with Oxis Energy valued at $5 million to build the world’s first luxury boat to be powered by Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries. The objective is to achieve a range of 70 to 100 nautical miles at cruising speed. Oxis will work with YdL to design the 40-foot luxury day boat, which will carry a 400 kWh battery system.

EVBox , a provider of charging hardware and software, has announced plans to go public through a merger with a company called TPG Pace Beneficial Finance (NYSE: TPGY). EVBox’s current owner, the French multinational utility ENGIE, will retain an ownership stake of over 40 percent, and will continue as a key partner of EVBox.
