Looking to find ways to keep improving water quality, the managers of the Royal Parks have installed a continuous water quality monitor; an ESNET (Environmental Sensor NETwork) system from Meteor Communications, as the company writes. The Serpentine is monitored by the Environment Agency which collects samples for bacteriological analysis every week between May and September.

A study of 29 European lakes has found that some naturally-occurring lake bacteria grow faster and more efficiently on the remains of plastic bags than on natural matter like leaves and twigs. The bacteria break down the carbon compounds in plastic to use as food for their growth.

A three-year £10 million large-scale demonstrator project focused on the capture, recovery and recycling of plastic packaging currently lost to landfill and incineration is being led by resource recovery expert Fiberight. South Wales-based Fiberight is working with four partners on the Uncaptured Unrecycled Plastics (UP) project, which has secured £4.2million in co-funding from Innovate UK’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge (SSPPC).

Automotive supplier Bosch has released two new EV chargers, both fully UL and cUL compliant to ensure safety. The EV300 Level 2 charging station is “an affordable compact indoor/outdoor EV charger.” It has a short 16-foot cable to reduce clutter and the potential for tangling in areas with limited space, such as a garage. “The simple and flexible layout allows users to easily install the product as a permanent wall-mount plug-in charger,” says Bosch.
