Fortescue unveiled a green ammonia dual-fuel ship at COP. Other 🔋 Northvolt , a Stockholm, Sweden-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer, raised €902m ($986m) in Grant and Debt funding from The European Commission. BYD began construction of the largest 30 GWh sodium-ion battery facility for small EVs in Xuzhou, China.

For example, $7.5 billion for bus electrification sounds like a lot, but if you are buying buses at $900,000 a pop , your money doesn’t go that far (back of the envelope math suggests that it might cost the Chicago Transit Authority $1.5 billion or so to electrify their entire bus fleet).

It’s been making its own batteries since the days before US automakers were even thinking about lithium-ion supply chains. The automaker manufactured a specialized LFP battery, an alternative lithium-ion chemistry that swaps iron and phosphate in for the more expensive nickel or cobalt cathode materials.
