Around 70 million barrels of hydrocarbons are lost yearly due to evaporation of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) during loading, storage and transportation of crude oil on ships. VOCs are a large group of organic compounds. As a consequence of this and other studies, several countries and organizations began to look into the problem.
