When Jones Tract, a delta island, flooded in 2004, the damage cost $90 million to fix. There is also an intermediate option, a wetland that sustains a crop: rice in flooded fields. The event would likely incur tens of billions of dollars’ worth of damage and could take a year and a half to repair.
