When Jones Tract, a delta island, flooded in 2004, the damage cost $90 million to fix. Think of it as preventive medicine. The event would likely incur tens of billions of dollars’ worth of damage and could take a year and a half to repair. Nor is the flooding of delta islands unprecedented.
