Earth Day’s resilience enabled it to move to the world stage in the 1990s, paving the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil. It took another 7 years before our changing climate was defined as global warming – the phrase did not appear in a peer-reviewed journal until 1975.
