The 45th NZGW by the University of Auckland Geothermal Institute drew nearly 350 delegates to discuss how geothermal can contribute to a sustainable energy transition.

The 45th New Zealand Geothermal Workshop was a huge success, with nearly 350 delegates attending the event organized by the Geothermal Institute at the University of Auckland. People came from all around the world with large delegations from Indonesia and Taiwan. It was an excellent opportunity for stakeholders to discuss how geothermal energy can help address some of the world’s most pressing challenges in achieving a sustainable and just energy transition.

Held on 15-17 November 2023, the workshop provided a platform for industry stakeholders and experts to share their knowledge and insights on the latest developments in the geothermal industry. The three-day event featured four world-class keynote speakers, 83 technical papers, and 21 industry updates.

The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including geothermal exploration, drilling, reservoir engineering and modelling, power generation, and environmental management. The event also showcased the latest technologies, products, and services in the geothermal industry and included a virtual exhibition, where participants could interact with leading geothermal companies and organizations.

The 45th New Zealand Geothermal Workshop proceedings are now available on the International Geothermal Association database and the workshop organizers announced the winners of the Best Overall Paper Award, Best Student Paper Award, Best Poster Award, and Best Geothermal Earth Sciences Award.
