Chevron New Energies (CNE) is advertising an open position for a Geothermal Earth Scientist to be based in Houston, Texas. Online applications will be accepted only until 10 October 2023, 11:59 PM CST. Those who are interested may apply via the official Chevron careers platform.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • The Earth Scientist is a key member of the Emerging team and will be responsible for conducting subsurface assessments and screening work for potential geothermal projects globally.
  • Conducts comprehensive local and regional subsurface interpretation to evaluate volumetric and risk assessments to identify feasibility of potential geothermal formations.
  • Familiar with different geothermal technologies (hydrothermal, EGS, ACL), vintage and varying quality of applicable geophysical data, well log correlations, core data to access opportunities for subsurface assurance.
  • Ability to quantify chance of success for key subsurface elements of geothermal power: Heat in Place, Conceptual Models, Rock Mechanical properties and stimulation techniques.
  • Collaborates with CTC and BU SMEs to leverage all relevant existing knowledge and information to assure assessments.
  • Ability to build and/or guide construction of earth and reservoir models for simulation.
  • Provides Subsurface Support to influence Chevron’s strategic direction for geothermal.
  • Willing to learn ERT, SSA, and RAC subsurface assurance practices for geothermal resources.
  • Experienced working physical and virtual data rooms. Can quickly and efficiently assess geothermal opportunities in unfamiliar basins in short order to provide POV’s for investment decisions. This position reports to the Geothermal Program Manager.

Chevron New Energies (CNE) was created in 2021 to accelerate lower carbon energy solutions that will be complementary to our strong oil and gas business, while leveraging Chevron’s capabilities, assets and customer relationships.  CNE is focused on scaling three key businesses supporting our company’s higher return and lower carbon objectives: hydrogen, CCUS, offsets and emerging, which includes geothermal energy.

CNE is already involved in major geothermal projects worldwide, including a Joint Study Agreement (JSA) with Pertamina Geothermal Energy in Indonesia, and a joint venture with Swedish firm Baseload Capital to develop geothermal projects in the United States.
