Turkhan Energy has announced the commencement of the deep drilling phase for a 24-MW geothermal power project in Manisa, Türkiye.

Turkhan Petrol Mining and Energy (Turkhan Energy) has announced the completion of surface studies Manisa Salihli, Poyrazovasi in Türkiye. The mining and energy company will now proceed to the deep drilling stage, targeting a 24-MW geothermal power development.

The announcement was made by Ferdi Cobanoglu, General Manager of Turkhan Energy, on LinkedIn.

Founded in 2012, Turkhan Petrol Madencilik ve Enerji has been active in the iron and steel and mining sectors since its establishment. Since 2015, the company has been operating in the geothermal sector and has held three licences in Manisa – (1) 2019-IR-03 Saruhanli Gumulceli, (2) 2019-IR-04 Golmarmara Beyler, and (3) 2019-IR-05 Salihli Poyrazovasi Licensed fields.

After geothermal waters were encountered in shallow gradient wells for exploration purposes in these fields, MT studies were carried out by FNC and deep drilling locations aiming high enthalpy were determined. After the geological-geophysical studies carried out in Salihli Poyrazova Licence, the company accelerated its activities for the 24 MW geothermal power plant project in this licence.

The first studies of the Poyrazova Licence covering an area of 4734,14 hectares were interpreted and reported by Geothermex and Western Geco. According to Cobanoglu, the Poyrazovasi geothermal field was analysed in two parts, East and West, and it was stated that the reservoir could be reached at depths of 1800-2500 m in the Eastern part of the field and a geothermal power plant could be established by reaching a potential resource of 24 MW with approximately 10 production and injection wells. In the western part of the field, the reservoir levels will be slightly deeper, around 2000-2700 m, and a geothermal power plant with an installed power of 16 MW can be developed with approximately 10 wells.

The latest project by Turkhan Energy adds to a growing list of geothermal investments and exploration works being done in the Manisa Salihli region of Türkiye.
