The French Geological Survey / BRGM is advertising an opening for Geoscience engineer/researcher for geothermal exploration to be based in Orléans, France.

The French Geological Survey (Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières / BRGM) is advertising an open position for Junior/senior Geoscience engineer/researcher for geothermal exploration. The job will be based in Orléans, France with an expected start date of 14 December 2023.

Interested candidates may submit their application via this link.

The successful candidate will be mainly responsible for:

  • Design of geothermal reservoir models as part of scientific exploration and/or exploitation projects in direct collaboration with governmental bodies or geothermal operators, with the aim of contributing to the deployment of new deep geothermal exploration and deployment methods;
  • Contribution to quantitative interpretation studies based on oil & gas and geothermal borehole logs and surface seismic to obtain petrophysical properties of reservoirs;
  • Integration of multi-physical and multi-scale data (geophysics, logging, geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, etc.);
  • Communication of the results of scientific work through publications or presentations at professional conferences and seminars;
  • Implementation of good practices for data processing related to geothermal reservoir knowledge.

The successful candidate will be joining the Geothermal Energy and Energy Storage team under the GeoResources Division.  This is a multi-disciplinary team that aims to improve knowledge for geothermal resource characterisation and the assessment of underground energy storage potential. It also proposes optimal and practical solutions for integrating geothermal systems among other energy systems.

The team brings together some twenty engineers and researchers to characterise, models and measured data, for instance : thermal, fluids, and geomechanical properties. Along with the technical aspect, one other task is to promote and disseminate results, notably via the ADEME-BRGM website.

Finally, the chosen candidate will  provide institutional support for the entire geothermal industry, acting as an interface between geophysicists and geologists and contributing to the implementation of geothermal deployment initiatives (in particular in the context of the French government global strategy published in February 2023).

Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France’s leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.

BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
