Swiss Geo Energy completes geophysical campaign for GeoCogen Eclépens project

With the geophysical campaign for the GeoCogen Eclépens project completed, Swiss GeoEnergy will process the data for a 3D geological model of the study area.
Swiss Geo Energy (SGE) has announced the successful completion of the geophysical campaign for the project GeoCogen Eclépens, which concluded on October 6. These field operations mobilised significant resources and technical expertise to gather essential data for the project’s success aimed at producing electricity and geothermal heat.
A few months ago, we had reported on the start of the geophysical campaign which aims to collect data for the construction of a 3D geological model of the site of the GeoCogen Eclépens project. This model will define the trajectory of the future exploration well, the execution of which will be subject to a subsurface research permit application.
The geophysical campaign covered 104 sq. kilometers and 32 municipalities in the districts of Jura-Nord, Morges, and Gros-de-Vaud. 21,000 geophones were deployed for the campaign, recording around 100 TB worth of data. The corresponding 3D model has a volume of 500 sq. kilometers, or about 5 times the volume of the Lake Geneva.
“We are extremely satisfied with the progress of this geophysical campaign and the preliminary results. The next step, which will take approximately a year, will be to analyze this collected data to create a detailed three-dimensional map of the geology of the area. This will help us confirm the geothermal potential of the region,” said Eric Léoutre, Operations Director of Swiss Geo Energy.
GeoCogen Eclépens is a visionary deep geothermal project supported by the Federal Office of Energy (OFEN). It aims to produce renewable heat and electricity by 2030 jointly. Swiss Geo Energy’s activities fully align with the objectives of the federal energy strategy and those of the climate and innovation law adopted by the people on June 18, namely, to contribute to the development of renewable energies and achieve carbon neutrality.
