The Qingshui geothermal power in Yilan County, Taiwan has achieved a milestone output of 38 million kWh, supplying 75% of the demand of nearby communities.

The operators of the Qingshui geothermal power plant in Yilan County, Taiwan, have announced that the project has now produced more than 38 million kWh of electricity as of the end of July 2023 since its opening in October 2021. The milestone was announced during the visit of Minister Wu Tze-cheng and Yilan County Commissioner Lin Zi-miao.

The Qingshui geothermal power plant is the first privately run commercial scale geothermal power plant in Taiwan. With an installed capacity of 4.2 MWe, the plant is owned by a joint venture  between Fabulous Power Co and Taiwan Cogeneration Corp under build-operate transfer and rehabilitate-operate-transfer models with equipment from Ormat Technologies. The reservoir temperature is around 180 degrees Celsius at a depth from 1,200 to 2,100 meters.

The 38 million kWh power output is enough to meet the demand of about 75% of the 10,000 households of the combined Datong and neigbouring Sanshing townships.

Lin Zi-miao described the Qingshui geothermal power plant as a crucial energy provided for Yilan County and a milestone in Taiwan’s effort to achieve sustainable development. Wu then added that the new generator units using binary technology have been efficient and that the fouling rate has been
