Telling the story of geothermal through music and art in Italy

A series of musical and art performances in Pisa, Siena, and Grosseto tells the story of geothermal energy right at the heart of the industry in Italy.
Over the month of December 2023, three musical performances will be held in Italy that will tell the story of geothermal through music and art in the municipalities where the renewable source is cultivated. These shows will be part of the “The Big Heart of the Earth” project, a collaboration between the Assocazione Amici del Quartetto and Enel Green Power (EGP).
The opening show was held on the 14th of December in Castelnuovo Val di Cecina in Pisa with “The Five Elements.” Presenting in this kick-off event was actor and director Giacomo Moscato and musician Giovanni Lanzini, who transported the audience into the heart of the theme and telling the story through music, energy, and geothermal landscapes. The repertoire of music, lights, colors, and images culminated in a surprise ending in which the “fifth element” was revealed.
The second appointment was held the following day, 15th of December 2023, at the Church of Santi Michele e Sylvestro in Grosseto. The “Christmas Concert” was performed by DUO EQUInox, an internationally renowned duo of clarinet and guitar. The concert featured classic Christmas melodies combined with the highlights of Italian music.
The third and final event of the project will be held on the 22nd of December at the Teatro Comunale di Piancastagnaio in Siena with a repeat show of “The Five Elements.”
The three performances are sponsored by the municipalities of Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, Montieri and Piancastagnaio. It is a showcase of geothermal providing not just renewable energy, but also opportunities for sustainable tourism. In each of the musical events, food and wine products from the geothermal supply chain will be made available.
Enel Green Power manages 34 geothermal power plants in Tuscany, located between the provinces of Pisa, Siena, and Grosseto. With 916 MW of installed capacity and an annual production of almost 6 billion kWh, about 70% of the electricity demand in Tuscany is supplied by geothermal. The facilities also supply heat to 13,000 users, 26 hectares of greenhouses and agricultural and artisanal businesses, and fuels a sustainable tourism chain with 60,000 visits to museums, plants, and natural geothermal areas.
