GeoTHERM 2024 records impressive increase in visitors and exhibitors

The GeoTHERM Expo & Congress lived up its reputation as the biggest geothermal energy trade fair in Europe with the 2024 event recording a 50% increase in exhibitors and a total of 6,509 visitors – an impressive increase from last year’s 4,982.

Held from 29 February to 1 March, the 2024 GeoTHERM Expo & Congress provided the venue for 241 national and international exhibitors to exchange information about their latest developments, research results, and best practices in the field of geothermal energy. Specialist lectures, discussion rounds, and networking events facilitated this knowledge exchange and helped drive innovation and efficiency in the geothermal energy industry.

“The awakening of the industry was clearly noticeable. And we are very proud that we were able to complement our increase in exhibitors with a significant increase in visitors,” emphasizes project manager Gabriele Weislogel.

GeoTHERM has always taken up current developments in the industry and created a unique platform that always focuses on clear experience reports. In particular, the combination of congress and trade fair offered visitors the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information.

Current topics and questions in the industry were discussed in 56 lectures (previous year 38). This year, a citizens’ forum was offered again, where interested guests were able to obtain comprehensive information about geothermal energy, ask questions and gain an insight into the potential and challenges of this sustainable energy source.

“We are very pleased about the lively interest in the citizens’ forum on geothermal energy. It shows that citizens have a strong interest in sustainable energy sources and are actively looking for ways to find out about them,” says Tanja Hartmann, Head of Trade Fairs.

Scotland as an emerging geothermal hub

Scotland, an emerging geothermal hub, presented itself as the guest country at this year’s GeoTHERM. Over the last decade there has been a significant increase in interest and investment in geothermal energy in Scotland. Thanks to Scottish Government policy and financial support, Scotland has begun to exploit the significant potential for geothermal projects in the hot, dry rocks of East Grampian, the hot sedimentary aquifers of Fife’s Midland Valley and the disused mines of central Scotland.

“Scotland is an emerging geothermal energy hub and we are delighted to honor it as a guest country for GeoTHERM Expo & Congress 2024. The increasing demand for geothermal energy in Scotland reflects the growing awareness of sustainable energy use and environmental protection,” sums up Frank Thieme, Managing Director of Messe Offenburg.
