South African port to become exporter of hydrogen and ammonia
The South African Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has shortlisted three proposals for the construction of a planned port and rail infrastructure project for the export of hydrogen and ammonia.
The infrastructure will be located in the Boegoebaai area, in the Northern Cape Province, and provide the necessary logistics for green ammonia, manganese and other exports, and supports the beginning of the province as a mining destination.
The shortlisting is in the response to a positive reaction received from the market, in which eight consortia made up of local and international companies in the engineering, construction, funding and logistics sectors responded to the Request for Qualification (RFQ) issued in August (2022).
The three shortlisted respondents are Boegoebaai Port and Rail Consortium, Boegoebaai Development Consortium and Project Elephant Consort.
