Hydrogen Transport Benchmarking
Hydrogen Transport Benchmarking
The UK Hydrogen Strategy estimates that to meet Net Zero aims by 2050, hydrogen will make up 20-35% of the UK’s final energy demand (250-460 TWh a year).
Hydrogen has a critical role to play in the decarbonisation of industry, power, heat and transport. Via either combustion or powering fuel cells, hydrogen can help complement battery electrification of transport, and provide alternative solutions to hard to abate heavy modes of transport such as aviation and shipping.
To ensure a successful implementation of hydrogen within the UK transport sector, Hydrogen UK recommend that the UK government: Publish a Hydrogen in Transport strategy cutting across all the modes of transport enabling synergies to be identified and built upon.
Establish a minimum viable network of 200, >1 tonne per day capacity, hydrogen refuelling stations by 2030. Ensure the rollout of more hydrogen ecosystems like the Tees Valley project which attempt to aggregate various hydrogen demands to de-risk supply investment.
