To recap;
52 projects across 24 states;
These projects are expected to enable U.S. manufacturing capacity to produce:
- 14 gigawatts of fuel cells per year, to power 15% of medium- and heavy-duty trucks sold each year, and
- 10 gigawatts of electrolyzers per year, enough to produce an additional 1.3 million tons of clean hydrogen per year.
these investments will help DOE achieve its ambitious Hydrogen Shot goal of reducing the cost of producing clean hydrogen to $1 per kilogram together with the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs), tax incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act, and ongoing research, development, and demonstration in the DOE Hydrogen Program.
Announcement of intent to Launch Voluntary #Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchasing Challenge from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM)
Salient points:
Voluntary Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchasing Challenge will call on external organizations to join DOE in purchasing high-quality carbon dioxide removal credits, following the Department’s recent commitment to procure $35M through the Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchase Pilot Prize.
Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchase Pilot Prize (CDR Purchase Pilot Prize) offers up to $35 million in cash awards to teams that provide impactful CDR concept proposals, develop and refine these plans, and ultimately deliver their specified CDR credits.
Technologies that are eligible for CDR Purchase Pilot Prize:
- Direct Air Capture (#DAC)
- Biomass (BiCRS) technologies
- Enhanced geological weathering and enhanced mineralization technologies
- Planned and managed carbon sinks.
