Where do nations stand on their zero-emission targets? And is there any hope of achieving the 1.5 degree C target?

Since 2020 the number of countries that have set net-zero emission targets has increased from 124 to 149. But like the research conducted at the corporate level, a recent peer-reviewed study published in the journal of Science raised questions about the credibility of national net-zero targets as well.

When they looked at current policies, and only the net-zero targets rated with a “high confidence” level, they projected that the world is on a path to be 2.4 degrees warmer than the lates 19th century average, well above the target of 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The saying “all hat and no cattle” comes to mind. Or for any Brits reading this, “all mouth and no trousers”. I’m biased but I like the American version better.
