This paper is much longer that I like to post, but I thought it better to leave it together rather than splitting it. It is not just for my normal reader, but also for stakeholders of private and public organization that are involved in the title subject. Mostly in California, but also outside of our state. For more details, read on.

This post will take a deep dive into California requirements and incentives for medium and heavy electric trucks, buses and related technologies, and look at why California is doing this. This paper will also dive into truck and bus manufacturers and their products. And finally, we will review U.S. federal incentives for electric trucks and buses.

How long would you expect progress for California in this regard to then be exported to other states?

Hi Matt, thanks for the question.

Quite a few states (mainly blue) are tracking California, and I'm sure the latter would support other states following our lead, so I would guess a few within the next five years. I would guess that these would be mainly in the West (WA, OR, CO and maybe NM) plus NY and maybe one or two of the New England states. The real questions other states need to answer are:

Do you care about climate change?

Do you have a realistic plan to get to net-zero GHG by 2050?

Our plan has many moving parts, but we've modeled its future, and it does look like we can do it. One of the major moving parts are incentives funded by Cap and Trade.
