In March 2022, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and City Commissioners approved our newest strategic roadmap to continue advancing #sustainability solutions in Orlando -- a strategy to accelerate the transition to clean, zero-emission, electric mobility solutions!

In #Orlando, over 1 million tons of carbon pollution is emitted by on-road transportation, contributing to the rise of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution that directly affects human health, both of which disproportionately impact our most vulnerable racial and socioeconomic groups. This underscored the importance of centering #equity throughout the Roadmap goals and objectives.

Over the course of 2021, more than 18 government, academic, nonprofit organizations, and businesses, as well as technical support from the American Cities Climate Challenge like Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)Delivery Associates, and Electrification Coalition, came together to co-create "Orlando's 2030 Electric Mobility Roadmap" that charts an ambitious pathway over the next 8 years. It spells out the city’s goals and plans to “embrace emerging technologies, reduce emissions that harm public health, bolster climate change resilience, and increase access and affordability for our disadvantaged communities.”

We hope this type of proactive planning can inspire other cities and communities to collaborate with your local partners and follow suite in co-create our strategy to be #FutureReady and embrace the rEVolution towards cleaner mobility solutions.

Major props to Ashley Van Stone and Ben Stacey from the #GreenWorksOrlando team who we're instrumental in managing this taskforce and the roadmap development. A big thank you to the various partners and agency representatives who gave their time and talents to creating this shared vision for our future.

As a resident of Orlando and an EV driver, I've definitely noticed the high prevalence of new charging infrastructure. Keep up the great work, Chris!

Great to hear, Matt! We're seeing an incredible increase in EV adoption in Orlando metro...exciting to see the transition before our eyes.

The plan doesn't seem to say much about what they will actually do. Have they responded to the Federal plan to add more fast charging along highways? Do they offer reduced registration fees for electric cars and trucks  do they require schools to add electric bases?

Appreciate your feedback, Jim. The Roadmap[ outlines specific goals, strategies, and indicators to track progress over the next 8 years towards 2030.

We have aligned this with the State EV Master Plan (developed by FDOT in 2021) which addresses the DCFC Hubs along highways and emergency evacuation routes. Our focus is the urban and suburban context to ensure we have sufficient and reliable charging network at parking garages, city parks, public venues, neighborhood centers, and more.

We do have now electric transit and electric school buses in pilot as we speak, and have plans (outlined in the plan) to transition to 100% electric and alt fuel (CNG) for 100% of our transit and school buses by 2030.

We are definitely aligned and preparing for the Federal IIJA funds for EV infrastructure and already have a working group with our utility, county, transit agency, airport, and other partners to get strategic with our approach.
