Orlando adopts "E-Mobility Roadmap" to accelerate zero-emission vehicles
In March 2022, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and City Commissioners approved our newest strategic roadmap to continue advancing #sustainability solutions in Orlando -- a strategy to accelerate the transition to clean, zero-emission, electric mobility solutions!
In #Orlando, over 1 million tons of carbon pollution is emitted by on-road transportation, contributing to the rise of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution that directly affects human health, both of which disproportionately impact our most vulnerable racial and socioeconomic groups. This underscored the importance of centering #equity throughout the Roadmap goals and objectives.
Over the course of 2021, more than 18 government, academic, nonprofit organizations, and businesses, as well as technical support from the American Cities Climate Challenge like Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Delivery Associates, and Electrification Coalition, came together to co-create "Orlando's 2030 Electric Mobility Roadmap" that charts an ambitious pathway over the next 8 years. It spells out the city’s goals and plans to “embrace emerging technologies, reduce emissions that harm public health, bolster climate change resilience, and increase access and affordability for our disadvantaged communities.”
We hope this type of proactive planning can inspire other cities and communities to collaborate with your local partners and follow suite in co-create our strategy to be #FutureReady and embrace the rEVolution towards cleaner mobility solutions.
Major props to Ashley Van Stone and Ben Stacey from the #GreenWorksOrlando team who we're instrumental in managing this taskforce and the roadmap development. A big thank you to the various partners and agency representatives who gave their time and talents to creating this shared vision for our future.
