URGENT EMISSIONS REDUCTION UPDATES
The recently released United Nation Report on climate change concluded- “It’s now or never, if we want to limit
global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F); Without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors, it will be
impossible,”. "Harmful carbon emissions from 2010-2019 have never been higher in human history, is proof that
the world is on a “fast track” to disaster." As individuals, companies, corporations, cities, states, and country
goverments we must do a better change. We must have better plans and achieve better results. Here are two common
sense things to implement now. Look at the graph above.
This graph shows the options for climate change mitigation and the cost and savings of each. The options on the left of the
graph provide the best retirn on investment. A propductive updated emission reduction plan would be to focus first on efficiency
upgrades that can pay for themselves in energy savings, then use the recouped funds to do the next most favorable return
upgrade. Insulation improvement provdie the absolute best return. Let's apply those to our biggest energy consumption
and largest emission source-buildings and structures! The US Depart of Energy estimates that buildings use over seventy
per cent of the electricity produced and that thirty percent of that energy is wasted! Reducing energy loss in heating,
cooling, and infiltration in buildings can elimainate most of that thirty per cent wasted and would result in the single
largest energy demand reduction achieved to date! There are available technologies for very effective and long lasting
building enveloping thermal improvements and they would self fund then provide savings for other efficiency measures
or renewable energy measure. Mission K2K is a great effort schedule in 2023 in India to bring awareness of such plans
to all of India with events and presentations across all of Inida.
Another emission reduction stategy that could be very effective would be a push for every company, corporation, business
entity, educational institution, health facility, and government body to be encouraged to measure their environmental
impact then make a commitment to do thier share to reduce their envroment footprint by 20%. These two measures alone
would ensure a global path to net zero emission by 2030.
We can and must do a much better job of energy demand/carbon emission reduction. We must minimize energy use
then rightsize our renewables. If we focus on the buildings first and then do our fair share of emissons reductions, then our
future and that of the generations to follow will be greener and more sustainable.
