An excellent article from Grist on the dangers of a rush to cash in on what I call fool's green hydrogen. If I have any criticism at all, it's that the article understates the potential damage. It recognizes that when the incentives created by Biden's Inflation Reduction Act are taken for supposedly "green" hydrogen produced by electricity from dedicated renewables, it will preclude higher value and more productive uses of the energy that the dedicated renewables could have provided on the grid. But it suggests that that might be an acceptable cost in return for stimulating the market for green hydrogen and lowering the future cost of electrolysis. Hmmm.
