The small, but perfectly positioned, Kiata wind farm in Victoria has once again topped the list of Australia’s best performing wind farms, delivering a country-leading capacity factor of 51.5 per cent in July.
In what was otherwise a subdued month for wind generation – with a fall in total output from 2788GWh in July last year to 2673GWh in July this year, the 31MW Kiata facility west of Horsham was one of only two wind farms – along with the 110MW Biala facility in NSW – to deliver more than 50 per cent capacity factor.
As this graph below – from Rystad Energy – illustrates, those wind farms were easily ahead of the next best wind asset, the 30MW Cullerin Range facility in NSW, which came in with a capacity factor of 45 per cent.
NSW accounted for seven of the top 15 ranked wind farms in the month, which along with the ramp up of the new 244MW Bango wind farm, helped that state produce more than 600GWh in a single month for the firs time, according to Rystad Energy’s David Dixon
Still, Victoria leads the way in terms of capacity installed, with more than 4GW to data, with South Australia and NSW following.
