Fisker NACS Tesla EV Charging

Fisker Inc. (NYSE: FSR) (“Fisker”) has gone the way of other car companies. I mean going NACS aka Tesla charging.  For Fisker has been driven by a mission to create the world’s most emotional and sustainable electric vehicles.  In addition, so has Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) (“Tesla”): as they acknowledge now.  For they are a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) space. 

 

Therefore, they have signed an agreement to provide access to the Supercharger network.

 

So Fisker also announces they have signed an agreement with Tesla. Most importantly to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS).  That will be on its first vehicles. For that will commence also in 2025.

 

The move will also provide Fisker owners with NACS or Tesla EV charging options.  Thereby taking advantage of Tesla’s 12,000 Supercharger stations in the United States and Canada. All current and future Fisker vehicles will be covered by the agreement. Fisker customers will also utilize a NACS adapter to plug in at Superchargers starting in Q1 2026. Fisker will later update vehicle engineering to include an NACS inlet. A CCS adapter will be provided so that customers can continue to charge using that standard. In addition, Fisker will adopt other EV charging standards—namely, CHAdeMO and CCS—on its future vehicles. The company will also implement its proprietary FiskerMobile app, which allows users to view charging status, locate charging stations, and see nearby Fisker vehicles.

Tesla Charging is NACS

The North American Charging Standard (NACS) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) standard for interoperability of electric vehicle charging systems on the commercially available national electric grid. The NACS will create a standard charging system that is compatible with any vehicle electrically compatible with the standard, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles as well as all-electric vehicles.

 

Fisker will adopt the NACS on its first vehicles in 2025. This will enable Fisker customers to utilize charging stations across the United States and Canada using any of the following methods of charging:

  1. Level 2 charging stations with an onboard charger
  2. Level 3 charging station with an external charger
  3. DC Fast charging stations with an external charger
  4. Tesla Supercharging stations

The North American Charging Standard was developed by a diverse group of stakeholders including utilities.  Also, automakers, charging system manufacturers, dealers, regulators, and others.  Especially to ensure a sustainable future for electric vehicles. It is now in the final stages of standardization.

Benefit of NACS for Fisker Charging

A primary benefit of a NACS-compliant charging system over existing systems is that it can support multiple charging technologies. Customers will be able to fully charge their vehicles with any of the four types of charging.
