Funding 

• American Battery Technology Company—a startup with technologies for lithium-ion battery recycling, battery-metal extraction, and primary mineral resource development—was awarded $60M in tax credits to accelerate the construction of its next-generation battery recycling facility.
• SWTCH Energy, which provides EV charging and energy-management solutions for high-density urban settings, raised a $27.2M Series B to bring EV chargers to apartment and condo buildings. 
• Nth Cycle, which uses low-emission technology to extract and refine critical metals, was awarded a $7.2M tax credit allocation from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the Advanced Energy Project Tax Credit (48C) program for its metal-refining facility in Fairfield, Ohio. 
• Sublime Systems, a startup decarbonizing cement-making, received $6.7M in funding from the DOE for its “Advanced Electrolytic Cement Process for Lower-Energy Use with Alternative Calcium Sources” project.
• Cyvl.ai, which uses 3D-mapping sensors and AI to improve outdated data collection and analysis processes, raised $6M in new investments to grow its partnerships with engineering firms. 
• Phoenix Tailings, a fully clean mining and metals-production startup, received a $1.4M Massachusetts state grant to support its Burlington, MA facility and grow workforce-development opportunities.   
• Verde Technologies announced several investments that will advance its next-generation, lightweight, flexible solar panels. 
• Greentown alum Via Separations and International Paper Company (IP) received funding from the DOE to decarbonize a thermal process at IP’s site in Louisiana using the startup’s membrane technology for chemical separations. 
• Carbon to Value Initiative Year 3 participant Global Algae, which grows algae to capture CO2 to produce protein and oil, received $1M from the DOE to develop an open raceway cultivation system for carbon capture to make polyurethane consumer products. 
• Greentown alum Verne announced funding led by Trucks Venture Capital—with participation from existing investors, including Greentown partners United Airlines and Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund—to accelerate the development of high-density hydrogen storage for heavy-duty transportation.
• Greentown alum Moment Energy, which provides clean and affordable battery energy storage systems, received a $6M tax credit to build the first large-scale UL 1974-certified manufacturing facility in North America. 

Partnerships + Deployments 

• Stepwise, a startup working to make home electrification effortless and affordable, announced the launch of its EV Tap product, a device that intelligently manages an EV charger’s power draw and eliminates the need for expensive electric panel upgrades.  
• American Battery Technology Company completed construction of its battery-grade lithium-hydroxide pilot plant in Nevada and began commissioning.
• QuantAQ, which develops durable, low-cost, professional-grade air-quality monitoring sensors, is using sensor data to help create Northeastern University’s iSUPER—one of the world’s most comprehensive air-quality-monitoring networks. 
• Element Resources will produce more than 20,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to Chart Industries in Lancaster, CA, making it one of the largest green-hydrogen projects in the state. 
• Cyvl.ai is partnering with SmartDelta to expand its sensor and AI infrastructure offerings globally. 
• Ohmium—a green-hydrogen company that designs, manufactures, and deploys advanced proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer systems—is partnering with H2 Green Mining to develop green-hydrogen projects that will help decarbonize mining operations in Chile.
• CarbonFree, which participated in Year 1 of the Carbon to Value Initiative and transforms carbon emissions into valuable industrial minerals, signed an agreement with U.S. Steel to capture CO2 from one of the largest North American integrated steel mills.  
• Kanin Energy signed a power purchase agreement for a first-of-its-kind partnership with Tallgrass, the University of Dayton, and the AES Corporation to deliver a sustainable waste-heat-to-power project that offsets the university’s consumption and reduces its carbon footprint. 
• Cyvl.ai was selected by the City of New Haven, CT to map, update, and manage the city’s entire roadway network, and successfully assessed 240 centerline miles of pavement data. 
• Fervo Energy, which is working to deliver next-generation, carbon-free geothermal energy, partnered with Turboden to advance the energy production of its Cape Station project. 
• Reframe Systems, which is building net-zero-carbon residential buildings, has set its first project: a two-story Passive House in Arlington, built in Reframe’s new micro-factory.
• Greentown alum Energy Toolbase, whose software platform enables solar and energy-storage developers to deploy projects more efficiently, deployed two energy storage systems with Socomec in Hanford, CA.  

Awards + Recognitions 

• Revterra, a startup developing a grid-stabilizing kinetic battery, won the ADNOC Decarbonization Challenge at COP28, along with a $1M piloting opportunity. 
• Public Grid, whose green-energy-management platform saves users money and reduces GHG emissions, was selected to join Moderne Venture’s 2024 Spring Passport Class. 
• Apoorv Sinha, CEO of Carbon Upcycling Technologies—a waste- and carbon-utilization company—was named one of Maclean’s 100 most influential Canadians.  
• MicroEra Power, a startup developing a thermal-energy-storage system to decarbonize buildings, was selected to participate in the Scale For ClimateTech cohort.
• Syzygy Plasmonics, which is developing a new type of photocatalytic chemical reactor, won the 2024 Next Gen Award for low-carbon fuels and energy sources from Decarb Connect North America. 
• Active Surfaces, a Go Build 2023 participant that’s commercializing ultra-thin-film solar technology, received $2,500 for winning Phase 1 of the DOE’s Making Advanced Technology Commercialization Harmonized prize.
• Greentown alum Embue, a smart-device company for portfolio-wide apartment-building management, was named to Third Derivative’s Cohort 24-1.
