Electric big rigs are going farther and charging faster
Power grid expansion!
This is a detailed assessment of a recent North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) survey of heavy-duty battery-powered trucks by Canary Media Inc.'s Jeff St. John. The data comes from trucks participating in Run on Less – Electric Depot, a three-week-long test-drive event. Here is an excerpt from the story, "One of the biggest short-term barriers to electrifying fleets is getting utilities to expand the power grid to serve the hefty charging needs of electric trucks" One statement supporting grid expansion . . . "The cost of new grid infrastructure to supply electricity may still remain lower than the cost of other decarbonization options, like green hydrogen." Though the upfront costs are considerably higher than diesel trucks, the increased efficiency, lower maintenance cost, lower re-fueling cost, and ease of driving make electric big-rigs a viable option.
Electric big rigs are going farther and charging faster
Heavy-duty battery-powered trucks running real cargo on U.S. roads are going hundreds of miles per charge — a good sign for cutting trucking emissions.
