LPO Director Jigar Shah Discusses VPPs with Duke Energy Senior Vice President Lon Huber at RE+ 2023
Missed LPO at RE+ 2023? Good news—you can catch up on two of the highlights of the conference: LPO Director Jigar Shah's "Master Speaker Session" discussion with Duke Energy Senior Vice President Lon Huber and his "QuickTalks" presentation with LPO Senior Advisor Jen Downing summarizing the DOE's Pathway to Commercial Liftoff for Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) report, which was announced at the conference (see: https://lnkd.in/eQYgkB8B).
In a sign of the times for VPPs, both discussions ended up coalescing around the same basic message: There used to be tension between the distributed solar industry and utilities for reasons such as the economics of net metering. But with the growth of VPPs, distributed solar, storage, and many other types of distributed energy resources are becoming critical tools for utilities to serve growing demand. It’s becoming clear that VPPs can serve as a win-win solution, helping to overcome past differences between distributed solar and utilities. It's time to #deploydeploydeploy!

Roadblock to Nuclear Expansion
The title issue is both simple and complex. Current conventional (fission) nuclear reactors use fuel elements, each of which is a cluster of alloy tubes that (generally) contain enriched uranium. These fuel elements each have productive life of 2..
