Florida’s environment, often marred by political divisiveness. Yet we saw a rare moment of unity in the State of Florida during the recent legislative session.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle came together to pass several environmental bills. Those that will have a positive impact on the state’s natural resources.

Bipartisan Efforts to Improve Water Quality

One of the major bills passed was the Clean Waterways Act. One which aims to reduce harmful algal blooms and improve water quality in the State of Florida’s rivers and streams. The bill also received strong bipartisan support. Moreover it was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis.


Another notable bill was the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act. One which designates a contiguous network of wildlife corridors throughout the state. The goal is to protect the state’s diverse wildlife and their habitats, while also providing opportunities for recreation and tourism.

Conservation Funding

Lawmakers also approved a significant increase in funding for the state’s land conservation program, Florida Forever. The program will receive $200 million annually for the next 10 years, allowing for the acquisition of important conservation lands and preservation of natural habitats.

In addition, the legislature approved a bill that will provide funding for the restoration of the Everglades and the prevention of harmful discharges from Lake Okeechobee.

Looking Towards a Greener Future

The recent legislative session marks a positive step towards a greener future for Florida. With bipartisan support for environmental conservation, the state can continue to protect its natural resources and promote sustainable growth.


However, there is still much work to be done. Climate change remains a pressing issue, and Florida is one of the most vulnerable states to its effects. It is important for lawmakers to continue to prioritize environmental protection and work towards a more sustainable future for all Floridians.
