Chevrolet is getting ready to spruce things up in the electric car department. In 2016, they introduced the all-electric Chevy Bolt which has grown in popularity over the last several years. According to Business Insider, sales from 2019 to 2020 increased from 16,418 units sold to 20,754 units sold. That’s a 26.4% net increase. Although the Chevy Bolt is currently Chevrolet’s only electric vehicle (EV), it won’t be the last. Get ready for EVs that vary in size, design and special features.
The success of the 2020 Chevy Bolt is redefining what all electric means to Chevrolet. The new 2021 Bolt starts at $36,500 and boasts easy and convenient charging. The available 240-volt charging unit allows drivers to conveniently plug in at home while the MyChevrolet mobile app allows drivers to locate charging stations on the go. The 2021 Bolt has an EPA estimated mile range of 259 when on a full charge. In addition, buyers may qualify for an incentive depending on the state they live in and will receive an 8 year/100k mile battery warranty.
2021 Chevy Bolt Highlights
Electric drive unit: 200 hp (150 kW) of motoring power, 266 lb-ft (360 N-m) of motoring torque and 0-601 in 6.5 seconds.
Lithium ion battery: Rechargeable Energy Storage System, includes liquid thermal management system with automatic activation.
Regen on Demand™ steering wheel paddle: Drive and (L) modes use regenerative braking to capture otherwise lost energy when the vehicle is coasting or decelerating. This is possible without even using the brake pedal. It then sends that energy to the battery pack.
DC fast charging capability: Allows you to charge at publicly available DC Fast Charging stations. In addition, it charges the battery up to 100 miles in only 30 minutes.
HD surround vision: Uses multiple cameras to display a digital overhead image of the area around your vehicle along with Rear Vision Camera or front views. This feature works at low speeds and may help you park and avoid nearby objects.
Lane keep assist with lane departure warning: Use a gentle steering wheel turn to alert you when you may be drifting out of detected lane lines, so you can steer to stay safely in your lane. If needed, you may receive additional Lane Departure Warning alerts.
Automatic emergency braking: Works with Forward Collision Alert to help you avoid or reduce the severity of a front-end collision with a detected vehicle you’re following. This feature works at speeds below 50 mph.
