Let’s talk the 2021 Lexus NX hybrid electric utility vehicle. As I wrote before:
Imagine a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that’s luxury, the same size as a RAV4 and gets 36 miles per gallon in ECO drive. I also liked the in-wheel green LED lighting added to create that extra dramatic dimension to the new look of the NX.
As Lexus states, we would expect from the luxury hybrid leader. Yet the 2020 Lexus NX 300h emphasizes efficiency with the preliminary 33/city, 30/highway, 31/combined mpg estimates determined by Lexus.
What? Really? Uh no! It’s more fuel efficient than that!
The NX 300’s raised driving position evokes a sporty driving experience with features to complement a busy lifestyle. This includes the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 as standard equipment, Lexus Enform Wi-Fi (with 4GB of space complimentary for 3 months) and a power back door with kick sensor available as a standalone option. Additional options include: Intuitive Parking Assist; Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert; and a Comfort Package with driver and passenger heated and ventilated seats.
Well again folks , that’s Lexus NX 300h hybrid electric car.
Built of the platform of the Toyota RAV4, this SUV has all the Lexus amenities and then some (to say the least!!).

The Drive Mode Select enabled me to make the vehicle more efficient. Sport mode alters the powertrain for faster and more dynamic throttle response. Normal mode provides the optimal balance of fuel efficiency and engine performance. ECO mode moderates the throttle response, engine power output and climate settings for increased fuel efficiency.
As figured the test drive was conducted all in ECO mode.
However my FAVORITE mode was EV MODE!!
In addition to the benefits of Drive Mode Select’s ECO, Normal and Sport modes, the hybrid offers the added efficiency of an EV driving mode. Making the vehicle more efficient with a simple push of a button, it enables you to drive for short distances at low speeds on battery power alone.
However, as US News car editor says, the 2021 Lexus NX Hybrid offers good fuel economy and a gentle ride, but it’s held back by frustrating infotainment controls, a meager cargo hold, and disappointing performance.
In conclusion, it did slip a little but not as bad as expected. Finally, this vehicle could easily in the future get over 40-50 MPG. Especially when they add a few more batteries to the hybrid pack. It seems that this car has the ability in the future to get more efficient and maintain its amazing performance. It’s worth the investment and the time to consider. It’s exciting because this is the first 35 plus MPG hybrid SUV. Stay tuned for more from Lexus on this model the NX.
