Meet Our Members: Introducing Greentown’s Newest Startups of Q3 2022

Fourteen startups joined our community in the third quarter of 2022, working on innovations as diverse as a carbontech solution for aluminum manufacturing, an AI platform for tracking scope 1 and scope 3 vehicle emissions, and waste-biomass-turned-biochar for replacing cement.

We’re thrilled to support these groundbreaking climatetech startups—let us introduce you!

Buildings

ecoLocked converts waste biomass into biochar to create admixes that can replace a share of the cement used in concrete manufacturing, and thus sequester carbon within buildings.

SmartAC.com’s HVAC & plumbing algorithms are powered by 24/7 data on HVAC performance and water leak/clog detection, streamlining the experience for homeowners while aiding contractors in fostering long-term homeowner loyalty.

Electricity

FreeStar Power is bringing forth alternative power solutions for residential consumers of utility power, with the objective of addressing energy reliability, the climate crisis, and rising energy demands and costs.

Manufacturing

9T Labs innovates solutions for today’s wasteful and inefficient production processes for high-performance parts, enabling a new category of sustainable metal substitution across mobility, medical, and recreational applications.

Aja Labs leverages green chemistry, polymer science, and materials engineering to deliver a novel fiber that can match the aesthetic and performance of hair, applying circular economy concepts to the false-hair industry.

Aluminum Technologies has developed Carbo-Chloride Reduction (CCR) aluminum manufacturing technology, which captures process CO2 and also reduces power consumption relative to conventional methods.

Black Girls Do Engineer provides girls and young women ages 6 to 21 with mentoring, personal growth regimens, STEM projects and activities, STEM challenges, and guidance on career paths from STEM leaders.

Carbon Upcycling Technologies utilizes point-source CO2 and mineralizes it with waste materials to create supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) that can be used in building materials.

Carbonova Corp utilizes CO2 and methane as a feedstock to produce carbon nanofibers (CNF) that may be used in various fields such as transportation and buildings.

Full Cycle Bioplastics has a patented bacteria-based technology that converts organic waste into Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a biopolymer that can be used to replace a wide range of oil-based plastic applications.

Molecule Works develops a solid sorbent Direct Air Capture (DAC) system using a novel reactor and contactor configuration.

Resiliency + Adaptation

Emerald Cities Collaborative, a nonprofit network of organizations, develops energy, green infrastructure, and other sustainable development projects that not only contribute to the resilience of metropolitan regions, but also ensure an equity stake for low-income communities of color in the green economy.

Transportation

CarTwin is a first-of-its-kind, AI-driven platform designed to support and enable an organization’s ESG priorities by providing real-time data on scope 1 and scope 3 vehicle emissions.

Solid Ox Motors will manufacture mobile Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) range extenders for battery electric vehicles, using them to trickle-charge batteries while effortlessly retaining CO2 for sequestration and recycling.
