Lion Energy Advances in Green Hydrogen Sector with Promising Developments in Q4 2023.

Lion Energy Limited is making significant strides in its green hydrogen ventures as of Q4 2023, notably in its Port of Brisbane project. The company has successfully navigated to the public notification stage of its Development Application, submitted in September 2023, with Queensland Government approval anticipated in Q1 2024.

Key advancements in the project include the commencement of detailed design work and the preparation to issue construction tender documents in Q1 2024. Lion Energy is also engaged in progressive joint venture discussions and responding to multiple proposals for green hydrogen offtake, underscoring the growing market interest.

image001A pivotal development in this period is the signing of a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) for a long-term land lease within the Port of Brisbane (POB), where Lion plans to establish its inaugural hydrogen generation and refuelling hub. Following the finalization of lease agreement negotiations and development consent from the POB in August, the project is moving forward steadily, setting the stage for a Q1 2024 project approval.

The planned hub, focusing on heavy mobility fleets, particularly public bus fleets, and off-grid power applications in construction and mining sectors, marks a significant step in Lion’s hydrogen strategy. It is designed to initially produce and dispense 420kg/day of green hydrogen, with scalability to double production in response to demand. The project, strategically located near Brisbane’s numerous bus depots and heavy vehicle traffic routes, is envisioned as the first in a broader network, forming an integral part of a hub and spoke/depot supply model.
