Commerce’s Rural Clean Energy Innovation program supports clean energy research, development and implementation in Washington’s rural communities. The program will allocate approximately $4.9 million from the state Clean Energy Fund to advance clean energy through a work group and new grant program with specific funding targeted to bioenergy and Tribal energy projects.

Opportunities for Tribal governments
Approximately $920,000 is currently available to Tribal governments, designated subdivisions and agencies for projects supporting rural clean energy.

We want your input on rural energy priorities
We also invite interested Tribes to participate in one-on-one meetings with the Clean Energy Fund staff to provide feedback on specific rural energy priorities that will inform Commerce’s strategic plan and report to the Legislature.
These meetings can be scheduled through March 2 by emailing cef@commerce.wa.gov.

Public comment period updates
- EXTENDED: Public comment period closes Feb. 20.
The Rural Clean Energy Work Group has been working since October last year to develop recommendations on a strategic plan and report to the Legislature due June 30. In parallel with the work group meetings, Commerce invites feedback through a public comment form. We want to hear your ideas for how to develop clean energy projects that meet the needs of Washington’s rural communities. Comments are due by Feb. 20, 2022. - TENTATIVE: Additional public comment period on draft recommendations. Another public comment period is anticipated in late March to gather feedback on the work group’s draft recommendations. More details will be announced closer to the opportunity.
