Rebecca Taylor Launches ReCollect: A Trade-In And Recycling Program For Rebecca Taylor Customers

This article is more than 4 years old.

Rebecca Taylor introduces ReCollect: a new program that repurposes, recycles and resells pre-loved Rebecca Taylor clothing. The brand has been committed to crafting timeless, quality, and enduring pieces and ReCollect offers an opportunity to extend the lifecycle to those pieces while reducing waste and encouraging responsible consumption. ReCollect is a platform that allows customers the opportunity to trade-in their gently worn Rebecca Taylor clothing for a $15 credit per item that can be redeemed in all Rebecca Taylor boutiques and on their e-commerce site. “As a brand we are enthusiastic about engaging our customers in new ways, we were one of the first brands to launch an in-house rental program. ReCollect, not only allows us to connect with our consumer in a new way but will also provide an opportunity for both our customer and our brand to  participate in the circular economy. These new platforms (both rental and resale) open up new ways to interact with the brand for our customer and enables us to acquire new customers,” shared Rebecca Taylor Brand President, Janice Sullivan.

Even with their own in house rental program Rebecca Taylor RNTD in partnership with CaaStle and their success with Rent the Runway, ReCollect opens up the opportunity for the brand to have a new relationship with the customer. “Through ReCollect we can offer our customers the ability to participate in the upcycle economy and extend their relationship with the brand through resale. I believe brands are looking for ways to deepen their relationship with their current customers and have the opportunity to reach new, aspirational customers. It will also give brand fans an opportunity to check out items they may have missed out on, hunt for their favorite vintage pieces and be able to shop for good product at resale prices,” explained Sullivan

When items are sent to be recycled, they are sorted to determine if they can be repaired, cleaned, and resold. Items not up for resale standards will be sent to HELPSY’s recycled and upcycled programs. After carefully selecting slightly worn and vintage pieces, they will be curated into edited drops to be resold on Rebecca Taylor’s website under ReCollect. This new platform will offer the consumer a great way to find unique, one-of-a-kind Rebecca Taylor pieces that have been discontinued.

In addition to introducing the re-commerce model to participate in the circular economy, Rebecca Taylor has been pursuing internal initiatives to become more environmentally conscious by converting to Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton in our core suiting fabrication for Tailored. Also, working towards using organic yarns and fabrics for the brand whenever possible. For Spring 2020 we converted to biodegradable poly bags and recycled hangers as an effort to make a dent in fashion’s carbon footprint. Rebecca Taylor will be working with The Eco Laundry Company, an eco-friendly dry cleaner for the cleaning of all garments for ReCollect. Rebecca Taylor will be donating 50% of retail proceeds from ReCollect to Cool Effect, an organization that focuses on reducing carbon emissions to combat climate change through high quality carbon reduction projects across the globe. Specifically, Rebecca Taylor will be donating funds to help families build biogas digesters and clean cookstoves which will help transform harmful global warming emissions into clean, renewable energy in China.

Every Cool Effect project has been vetted, ethically proven and scientifically validated. These projects make an actual impact on our climate crisis, Cool Effect has reduced over 1 million tons of carbon in less than four years. ReCollect launches today online and in all of Rebecca Taylor brick and mortar stores.
