Geoscience technology firm CGG has conducted a microplastics pollution survey as part of a scoping study into whether it would be possible to create a “Plastic Free zone” on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). The work is being used to help determine a Microplastic Pollution Index, which could pinpoint areas of plastic leakage and wastage where microplastics may be entering the food chain or natural environment.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency has awarded a total of $26.8 million to five public charging providers to fund the deployment of 403 new fast charging stations, each with dual-vehicle capability and 50 kW or more of power. Chinese manufacturer MingYang Smart Energy has unveiled a 264-meter tall, 16-megawatt capacity offshore wind turbine. The MySE 16.0-242 becomes the world’s largest hybrid drive wind turbine with a 242-meter diameter rotor, 118-meter long blades, and 4,600 m2 swept area. The model is capable of generating 80,000 MWh of electricity every year, enough to power more than 20,000 households.
