NASCAR and other auto racing leagues aren’t the most green on paper. After all, they do use gasoline to drive around in circles for hours. But over the last decade, the United States’ premier stock car racing association has taken steps to achieving cleaner air, cleaner energy and cleaner grounds through the NASCAR Green project. Through its partnership with Sunoco, NASCAR now uses an ethanol blend biofuel in its racecars and has significantly improved its recycling efforts at tracks.
But probably most impressive, especially with a more conservative fan base, is that NASCAR is one of the most pro-renewables sporting associations in the United States. Many tracks support small amounts of solar, but there are also major multi-megawatt farms built just outside some famous turns.
Take a look at the most significant solar projects seen at NASCAR tracks across the country. From Daytona International Speedway to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, more race fans are coming in contact with solar energy in a big way.
