According to the UN Foot and Agricultural Organisation, the transport sector accounts for around five and a half billion tonnes of CO 2 emissions every year. Given the increasingly obvious need for the world to lower its carbon emissions, the case for making a switch to cleaner, greener forms of transport is nigh-on incontrovertible. These new forms of transport will, in all likelihood, be electric ones.

Dutch startup LeydenJar is opening a pilot plant to manufacture new-generation batteries that utilize pure silicon anodes, which the company says can store 50% more energy than conventional lithium batteries. LeydenJar and its development partners hope to use the pilot plant to demonstrate that batteries with silicon anodes can be manufactured for the same price as traditional batteries with graphite anodes.

A few days have passed since the reveal of Tesla’s Cybertruck. I’ll admit to being one of those who thought Musk was playing a joke when the Cybertruck first rolled onto the stage. But in a few minutes I realized this was really it. It wasn’t a movie prop, this was the newest addition to the Tesla lineup of electric vehicles. The sledgehammer stunt was pretty cool, and then the window break fail (first iteration) made me wonder again if this was just a setup for the real vehicle.
