5 Important Reasons to Recycle Your Lightbulbs

The Environmental Blog

Most people understand the importance of recycling. Reusing and repurposing materials decreases the need for new manufacturing, which, in turn, reduces emissions and waste. However, not everyone realizes that lightbulbs need proper recycling, too. Not only do they contain hazardous materials in some instances, but they also make up a significant portion of landfill waste.

Researchers have developed an electronic nose with porous metal-organic framework (MOF) films that can accurately distinguish mixtures of the VOC compound xylene. Xylene exists as three isomers with the same elements but slightly different arrangements. Because the isomers are so similar, they’re hard to monitor separately. The new MOF-based e-nose introduces this capability, as recently reported in the journal ACS Sensors.
