Korea’s SK Group acquires Signet EV, invests in Polestar

South Korean conglomerate the SK Group has entered the EVSE market by acquiring a majority stake in charger manufacturer Signet EV. SK acquired 55.5% of Signet EV’s shares for 293 billion won ($263 million). Established in 2016, Korean firm Signet EV, which sells a full line of EV charging hardware and solutions, including 350 kW chargers, earned $55 million last year, the majority ($46 million) from overseas sales of “super-fast chargers” in the US and elsewhere.

ABB E-mobility has announced plans for a multi-million-dollar investment to expand its manufacturing operations in Columbia, South Carolina. The new facility will be capable of producing up to 10,000 chargers per year, ranging from 20 to 180 kW in power. GM won’t offer buyouts to Chevy dealers who don’t want to sell EVs

GM came up with an elegant solution to the problem of dealers whose hearts aren’t in the EV transition. When the automaker confirmed plans to make Cadillac an all-electric brand, it offered its dealers a choice: invest in the necessary upgrades to sell EVs, or take a cash buyout. That process has now ended, and GM says about a third of Cadillac dealers (575) took the buyout.
