Following my previous article on U.S. natural gas production, I engaged in a Twitter discussion on the causes of the natural gas price surge over the past two years. I'm not so sure this article gets it right. The largest contributor to higher natural gas demand has been US power generation. Outside of the Northeast US natgas pricing still remains effectively disconnected from global energy markets given export capacity limits.
