Nissan begins European production of new electric Townstar delivery van

Nissan has begun production of its new Townstar EV delivery van, to be sold in select European markets. Built on a shared CMF-C platform, the new vehicle will be manufactured at the Renault plant in Maubeuge, France.

The Townstar will replace the NV200 and NV200e in Nissan’s light commercial vehicle lineup.

The Townstar EV’s powertrain features intelligent energy management and battery thermal cooling. The motor delivers 122 PS and 245 Nm of torque. The 45 kWh battery pack delivers a range of up to 300 km (on the WLTP cycle).

The Townstar EV supports Level 2 AC charging at 11 or 22 kW, and CCS DC fast charging (sayonara, CHAdeMO).

The Townstar EV offers a payload of between 600 to 800 kg, and towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg. The cargo area ranges between 3.3 to 4.9 cubic meters, enough to carry two Euro pallets.

In addition to Nissan’s standard 5-year/160,000-km vehicle warranty, the Townstar EV’s battery is guaranteed to retain 70% of its capacity for 8 years.

Nissan says the Townstar represents the most advanced van in its current LCV line-up. It includes a plethora of technology features, including Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist driving assistance system and its Intelligent Around View Monitor (AVM). A heat pump improves efficiency and comfort in colder temperatures, and a heated steering wheel, windshield and front seats are available as options.

“Our electrification expertise and leadership in the e-LCV segment has been a critical component in the development of the fully electric version of the Townstar,” said Emmanuelle Serazin, LCV and Corporate Sales Director, Nissan Europe. “We’re confident that the Townstar EV’s raft of advanced safety features, versatile configurations and practical capabilities suit sustainable business operations.”
