Solaris to supply Bucharest, Romania with 100 electric trolleybuses

Solaris, a Polish producer of public transport vehicles, has announced that the Romanian Municipality of Bucharest has executed a contract for 100 Solaris Trollino 12 trolleybuses, with a base contract value of nearly €60 million. The vehicles are expected to arrive in Bucharest at the end of 2024.

Each 12-meter trolleybus is to be powered by a 160 kW traction motor and fitted with a 60 kWh Solaris High Power battery pack, enabling them to cover distances of up to 20 km at a time without connection to overhead wires. The traction batteries will be recharged both en route via in-motion charging technology and overnight at the depot.

Each of the 25-seat Trollinos can carry up to 90 passengers, and will be equipped with air conditioning, a monitoring system, and information system screens and USB chargers for passengers.
