On October 27, the winners of the 2020 United Nations Global Climate Action Awards were announced, shining a light on some of the best examples of what people across the globe are doing to combat climate change. We are thrilled that Elemental Excelerator and our CEO Dawn Lippert were recognized in the category of Women for Results for pioneering a new funding model for climate tech.
This UN Global Climate Action Award recognizes the powerful role that women play in addressing both climate change and wider economic, social, and environmental challenges. We believe that entrepreneurs are wired to meet those challenges with speed, and we exist to help them scale technology and deploy solutions to climate change faster than they would be able to do on their own.
As an entrepreneur herself, Dawn knows that the best solutions to climate change are also the most inclusive. That manifests itself in our majority female-led team; gender, racial, and ethnic diversity in our portfolio companies; and our program for startups designed to increase Equity & Access climate technology in frontline communities. Among the 19 companies in our latest cohort of companies, 50% have female founders, and nearly 80% have a female on the executive team.

The UN Global Climate Action Awards are spearheaded by the Momentum for Change initiative at UN Climate Change. The projects are recognized as innovative solutions that not only address climate change, but also help drive forward progress on many other sustainable development goals, for example, innovation, gender equality and economic opportunity. The 2020 winning activities were selected by an international Advisory Panel as part of the UN Climate Change’s Momentum for Change initiative.
