Wrightbus has achieved a significant milestone in Germany, securing an order for 46 Kite Hydroliner hydrogen buses from Cottbusverkehr GmbH for deployment in Cottbus, the second largest city in Brandenburg and in the western part of Spree-Neiße district. This marks the company’s first introduction of hydrogen buses into the city’s public transport network.

The buses, slated for initial delivery soon, adhere to both VDV (Association of German Transport Companies) regulations and the European General Safety Regulation GSR2, ensuring high standards of safety and protection for both vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users. This order represents a major step for Cottbusverkehr GmbH in transitioning towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly public transport system.

Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Wrightbus, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration with Cottbus, emphasizing the critical role of hydrogen in achieving decarbonization and improving air quality. “We are proud to provide a cleaner, more comfortable transit solution for Cottbus residents, and we see this as a cornerstone for our growing presence in the German market,” he noted.

Cottbus Mayor Marietta Tzschoppe highlighted the significance of this initiative in advancing local mobility solutions, stating, “This partnership not only marks a significant advancement in our journey towards sustainable mobility but also enhances the daily commuting experience of our citizens.”

This deal coincides with Wrightbus being recognized as Northern Ireland’s fastest-growing company, underpinning its expanding influence and capability in the hydrogen bus market, with a current production rate of 22 buses per week and employing 1,650 staff.
