Get expert advice on landscaping with native plants, attracting pollinators to your garden and planting prairies at this year’s virtual Plan It Native conference on September 16 – 18.
Deep Roots KC and its partners will host this second annual event featuring keynote speakers:
- Majora Carter, urban revitalization strategy consultant, real estate developer and MacArthur Fellow and Peabody Award winning broadcaster
- Margo Farnsworth, author of Biomimicry and Business: How Companies are Using Nature’s Strategies to Succeed
- Doug Tallamy, author of Nature’s Best Hope, Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens
Twenty-three speakers will cover a wide variety of topics, including selecting plants for pollinators, gardening for winter beauty and wildlife, principles for improving soil health, seeding and maintaining prairie plantings, native trees and plants, ecological restoration, replacements for invasive plants and green infrastructure.
The first 300 attendees who register before September 8 will receive a Getting Started Guide and welcome packet in the mail.
Native plants are critical to our natural system, supporting the butterflies, birds, bees and other insects that pollinate our food system. Their extensive root systems retain more water than traditional lawns, which reduces stormwater run-off, mitigates flooding and traps significant amounts of carbon.
