Automaker Uniti was established in 2015, and has roots in a research project at Sweden’s Lund University. Now the startup has revealed its first vehicle.

Designed in Sweden and engineered in the UK, the Uniti One was created from the ground up to be an urban electric vehicle. It features minimalist Scandinavian-style styling and a unique “one-plus-two” seating configuration – the driver sits in the center, a position that Uniti says offers “a symmetrical and near-uninterrupted view of the road ahead” with minimal obstructions to peripheral vison. Two passengers sit behind. A wide-angle rear-view camera replaces the traditional mirror.

The Uniti One will be offered with a choice of two battery sizes – the standard 12 kWh pack provides 93 miles of range, and the optional 24 kWh pack offers 186 miles. CCS fast charging is standard. A 50 kW permanent magnet motor drives the rear wheels, delivering 85 Nm of torque.

As a city car, the Uniti One is designed for compactness and efficiency – 3.2 meters long and 1.7 meters wide, with a curb weight of 600 kg mirrors, it has a turning circle of just seven meters, and boasts efficiency of 8.0 kWh/100 km. The interior space is designed to be highly adaptable, and offers 155 liters of rear cargo capacity (with the rear bench folded flat, the Uniti One turns into a single-seater, and provides 760 litres of usable cargo space).

Pre-ordering is open on Uniti’s web site, and the first deliveries are planned for Sweden and the UK in mid-2020. Prices start at £18,600 (before the £3,500 UK Government subsidy).
