On Wednesday, June 24, the CleanTech Alliance hosted Day 1 of the first-ever virtual CleanTech Innovation Showcase. The session kicked off with opening remarks from the CleanTech Alliance’s President & CEO Mel Clark, who introduced Susan Champlain from our presenting sponsor, Boeing.

Susan spoke briefly about what Boeing is doing to adapt to the pandemic and she introduced keynote speaker Jerry Bush, the President & CEO of UMC, Inc.

Jerry’s keynote was about how UMC has navigated through the COVID-19 health crisis and how his experience guiding the company through previous crises like the aftermath of 9/11 and the Great Recession have prepared him for today’s challenges. Jerry highlighted how UMC put an emphasis on people, information, and leadership to get through these tough times and left the audience with a message of hope and reassurances that we will overcome this and that eventually, the pandemic will end.

After a Q and A about Jerry’s presentation, attendees had the choice between two different tracks of presenting companies.

Track 1 presenting companies included Focal Technologies, BlueDot Photonics, and Ecellix while track #2 included SBI BioEnergy, Exro Technologies, and 2S Water.

Eric Steinmeyer of Focal Technologies kicked off track #1 with a presentation about how their solar remediation technology can be used to concentrate the sun’s energy to clean the earth. Jared Silvia from BlueDot Photonics spoke next about how BlueDot is accelerating the deployment of next-generation solar technology by developing simple, cost-effective solutions to improve solar panel performance and durability. Lastly, Jerry Schwartz and Geoff Deane from Ecellix concluded track #1 with a presentation about their ultra-high capacity next generation lithium ion batteries.

Dr. Inder Pal Singh from SBI BioEnergy started off track #2 with a presentation about their low-carbon renewable hydrogen generation technology. Next, Sue Ozdemir of Exro Technologies presented about Exro’s mission of using the minimum amount of energy to get maximum results by making electric motors smarter. The final presenter was Anthea Sargeaunt from 2S Water. She spoke about her company’s real-time data collecting water sensors that reduces the costs associated with data delays by scanning the water every minute.

After both presenting company track wrapped, all of the attendees reconvened and were split up into different breakout rooms for two rounds of virtual networking.
